There is a question I keep coming back to after twenty years of caring for people in this community, and it is not the one most people expect me to ask. It isn’t “what hurts?” It is “what do you still want your body to be able to do, and how many good years do you want to do it for?”
That question is the whole reason we created the Centenarian Project, and it is the reason we are inviting all of South Jersey to join us on Wednesday, September 24th for Health Heroes: Live to 100.
Why we’re doing this
Somewhere along the way, our culture decided that aging is something that happens to you. Knees go. Backs go. Energy goes. You slow down, you take a few more pills, and you make peace with the decline.
I have never believed that, and after two decades of clinical practice I can tell you with real confidence that it isn’t true. The way most of us age is not written into our genetics nearly as much as it is written into our habits, our stress, our sleep, our food, and how much we actually move through the world in a day. That is very good news, because habits can change, and the body is far more willing to respond than people give it credit for.
Our whole philosophy at South Jersey Physical Therapy is built on that idea. We work to eliminate the root cause of what is holding you back, empower you with the understanding and the tools to take ownership of your own health, and elevate your capacity so you can live fully. More life in your years, not just more years in your life.
But I did not want this event to be another lecture from a clinician standing in front of a slide deck. I wanted proof. Living, breathing, laughing proof from people who live right here.
Five neighbors, five remarkable lives
So we went looking for them, and we found five extraordinary people in their seventies, eighties, and nineties who are quietly doing what the research says should be possible. Marguerite, Mike, Gwen, George, and Tema are our Health Heroes, and every one of them is going to be there in person.
Gwen is ninety years old, and she swims regularly at Healthtrax. I want you to sit with that for a moment, because when you meet her you will realize very quickly that she is not an exception to some rule of nature. She is what the rule actually looks like when someone has been living well for a long time.
If you have seen “Down to Earth with Zac Efron” and the way that series explores the Blue Zones, those pockets of the world where people routinely live past a hundred with their minds sharp and their bodies working, you already understand the spirit of what we are doing. We simply decided we did not need to fly to Okinawa or Sardinia to find it. The blueprint has been living in Moorestown and Marlton and Medford the entire time, and we just needed to sit down and ask the right questions.
What we found, again and again, mapped almost perfectly onto the Four Pillars we build every care plan around: managing stress and tending to the spirit, protecting restorative sleep, eating real whole food, and moving with purpose. None of our Health Heroes has a secret supplement or an exotic protocol. What they have is decades of small, consistent, deeply human choices, and their stories are far more useful than any hack you will find online.
What you’ll take home
Every attendee receives a produced workbook that tells each of the five stories in full and translates them into a practical longevity blueprint you can actually start using the next morning. This is not a pamphlet destined for a junk drawer. We made it to be written in, argued with, and returned to.
You will also have a room full of people who care about the same things you do. We are proud to be presenting this alongside ACE Pickleball, Medford Functional Medicine, Health Traxx Fitness & Wellness, and Burlington County Health and Wellness Services, all of whom share our conviction that this community deserves better than managed decline.
The details
Health Heroes: Live to 100 Wednesday, September 24th, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Moorestown Community House, 16 East Main Street, Moorestown, NJ
There is a lovely bit of symmetry in the venue, by the way. The Community House is celebrating its own hundredth anniversary this year, which makes it exactly the right room for a conversation about what it takes to last.
We are expecting around two hundred neighbors to join us, and over the past two years these free community classes of ours have consistently filled up, so I would encourage you not to wait on this one.
Come meet your Health Heroes. Ask them your questions. Then go home and start writing the next chapter of your own long, healthy, ridiculously good life.
I will see you there.
